Classroom of the Future Created for Media Arts Center

Tasked with imagining the newsroom-classroom of the future, Palo Alto High School in Palo Alto, CA journalism teachers and students envisioned a Media Arts Center that would promote multi-platform publishing, collaboration, a sense of community, transparency and innovation.

“Our intent was to create a space that offers a vibrancy we don’t get from standard classrooms,” explains Paul Kandell, journalism teacher.

The result is a 23,000 sq. ft., two-story building featuring a variety of spaces outfitted with KI Furniture solutions:

  • The dynamic atrium delivers comfortable lounge seating, mobile tables and chairs, and café-style touch-down areas in a bright, colorful space.

Photography teacher Margo Wixsom describes it as “a professional space for students that replicates both an education environment as well as the future-tech of education reflected in Silicon Valley workspaces. It is becoming the best of Common Core visions for preparing students NOW for their future professions.”
